Friday: Boys Walk in the Wind

It was a bit windy on Friday but quite sunny. We had 5mm of rain overnight so everything had freshened up a bit. The little birds were out and feeding as usual but they were hard to capture because everything was moving so quickly in the wind.

The Spotted Pardalote appeared for a while gathering nesting materials. I saw it fly aong the creek with its beak full of wood fibre but I could not see where it landed. I will have to spend some time in the area to see if I can see more of them. I have seen them here before but only fleetingly.

There was a big flock of Silvereyes near the Tobacco Bushes. Obviously the fruit is ripe enough for them now. They were very flighty and it was interesting to see them all fly out of the bushes and across the track. It was difficult to see them in the bushes themselves because of the wind movement.

A saw a little bunny this morning. Since the virus attacks their numbers have dropped considerably. I would be luck to see more than 3 bunnies on a walk these days. Most of them are pretty young. The lack of older rabbits may mean that they have died after these young ones were old enough to feed themselves. I wonder if the young ones are resistant to the virus.

This Great Cormorant is usually on the stretch of creek between the Swing bridge and the factory. It has a deformed beak with the lower mandible  protruding past the upper. It does not seem to have affect its ability to fish though.
