Eraring Powerstation Outlet

I went out late this afternoon with John Doubikin Sr to do a bit of bird-flight photography practice, and to see what activity was around near the powerstation outlet. The Little Egret was near the wall fishing as usual. I expect to find either a Little, or a Great Egret in the area. This one was beginning to grow breeding plumes but there was no signs of the head plumes at this stage.

The Pelicans were moving around a bit today with several landing or taking off near us. A flock of five also flew over at some height. I think they had probably flown from Myuna Bay and were heading south.

There were quite a few Crested Terns flying their usual circuit up and down the outlet. Several of them dived down for fish and I managed to get one photo of one with a fish. It was too far away for a good photo.

I put the camera in continuous shutter mode with grouped continuous focusing. It worked quite well but I had difficulty picking up birds flying in front of a busy background. Once I did focus on a bird it seem to hold the focus pretty well as long as the focus group remained over the bird.

The light went off earlier than anticipated because some cloud came up to the west. One the light faded it became difficult to focus on moving objects and the pictures were of poor contrast as well.
