A New Sighting
I did my walk later in the day on Friday. There was quite a lot of bird activity but most of the activity was sound and the sightings were minimal. Partly that was due to the birds being a lot higher in the canopy that when I do my walk earlier in the day.
The old dead tree near the Swing-bridge had a bit of a surprise in it for me. It was the same dead branch that had attracted the attention of the Noisy Miners a couple of days previously so I was keen to see in the hollow in it had an occupant. Sure enough, there was a bird in there and while it is not a good photo it has been identified as an Australian Owlet-nightjar. I have heard reports on one around the area previously so this sighting confirms its presence. I wish the branch was a little closer to the ground though. it is fairly high up and standing out over Dora Creek. This photo was taken from the Swing-bridge and is heavily cropped from a photograph taken at 600mm.
