Several Walks - May 6 and 7

I did a long walk around Boy's Walk yesterday and again today, and I also visited Budgewoi.

The Boy's walk appears to be settling into its winter pattern now. Most of the Summer birds have left. There are however three notable observations:
  1. There are a lot of Currawongs around at the moment. I heard them constantly in the background through most of the walk. When you see then, they are either high in the branches of flying above tree-top height.
  2. The Red Whiskered Bulbul put in an appearance. It was a long way off but its distinctive crest made it quite visisble.
  3. A Brown Goshawk was seen flying over with a retinue of small birds behind it.
The Hearheads are still on the sewerage ponds, They were there both days. The Australian Grebes were there yesterday only.
The Black-faced Cuckoos were visitle in the high trees today, but were difficult to get close to. They insisted on sitting right over the top of me.

I surprised a pair of Estern Roesllas on my walk this morning. One flew off byt the other remained near enough to get a few photographs.

A single male Bowerbird was seen preening itself in a Eucalypt on Crawford Rd. Ithink that is highly likely to be the one that visits our Birdbath.

The visit out to Budgewoi was limited. I had hoped to catch another glimpse of the Southern Emuwren but it did not make an appearance. The Rose Robin was still in the trees next to the Weemala St enterance. The Golden Orbs were still occupying their webs. The photo shows the relative size of the female to the male.

There werwe quite a few Brown Thornbills in the Banksias/ They were a bit far away for a good photo but there is enough data for an ad hoc ID photograph
